Thoughts on Church Prayer

By: Esther Lu

What I love most about High Street is that we have congregational prayer every week that covers problems from our own communities to communities all around the world.

I hope that wherever you are, whether in your bedroom or at work, you too can join with us in prayer outside of the church walls.

This week we covered praying for countries facing conflict in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Specifically we covered praying for wisdom and discernment for these governmental leaders to decisions of peace making and for those leaders that know the Lord, to submit to His will and understanding when making decisions.

Lastly, our church prayed over Psalm 111. Nearly every week, our church will pray a Psalm as part of our time of prayer and I am reminded that the the power of praying with scripture will often resonate with us in the most unexpected ways.

Hope you can join with us in prayer today.

Psalm 111: (NIV) BibleGateWay

Praise the Lord

I will extol the Lord with all my heart
    in the council of the upright and in the assembly.

Great are the works of the Lord;
    they are pondered by all who delight in them.
Glorious and majestic are his deeds,
    and his righteousness endures forever.
He has caused his wonders to be remembered;
    the Lord is gracious and compassionate.
He provides food for those who fear him;
    he remembers his covenant forever.

He has shown his people the power of his works,
    giving them the lands of other nations.
The works of his hands are faithful and just;
    all his precepts are trustworthy.
They are established for ever and ever,
    enacted in faithfulness and uprightness.
He provided redemption for his people;
    he ordained his covenant forever—
    holy and awesome is his name.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
    all who follow his precepts have good understanding.
    To him belongs eternal praise.
